Challenge creators and moderators often find themselves in situations where they need to modify or refine text labels and help texts. Adjusting these elements can significantly improve guidance for submitters, leading to more precise and relevant submissions.
This capability enables System and Subsystem administrators define certain fields as flexible. This is relevant to fields of types such as Text, Number, Date, File, Link, Static and User.
We strongly recommend naming these fields in a manner that indicates their flexibility, such as "Flexible Text Field #1" or "Adjustable Numeric Field #1", etc, and define them as "not included by default" in the submission form.
Once a field is defined as flexible:
Challenge creators and managers can see that this field is flexible and can adjust the labels and help texts of these fields directly through the challenge settingsThe challenge-specific/adjusted labels are being used within the challenge and its reports. For all system-wide reports and tracking pages, the default field label is being used.
This article explains for sysadmins and subsystem admins how to enable this capability.
There is a different dedicated article that is aimed for Challenge Creators/Managers and explains how to utilize this capability.
Defining Fields with Flexible Labels and Help Texts
- Navigate to the submission form settings within the subsystem setting page.
- Add a new Field" or choose the desired fields and opt to edit.
This flexibility extends to fields of types such as Text, Number, Date, File, Link, Static Text and User. - Click the box for "Allow for label and help text renaming."
Once you click it another option will be displayed:
- If you click only the first option, the field will be displayed in his name, and the challenge creator will have the option to edit it. If there are multiple fields, they will be displayed in as separate fields

- If you click also the second option, it means that the challenge creator will NOT be able to see the original label, and all flexible fields will be displayed as a single option per field type.

** We recommend clicking also the second options when you have multiple text fields from the same type.
- If you click only the first option, the field will be displayed in his name, and the challenge creator will have the option to edit it. If there are multiple fields, they will be displayed in as separate fields
- Click "Done" and subsequently save the changes
